After a summer of ‘serious’ trail running events, it was time to do something more fun, in a stunning setting and to enjoy autumn in the mountains. And as you may or may not know, I like to think of myself as a bit of a ‘sports gourmand’ and it seems, I particularly like Swiss wine – which is very rarely written about, with the Swiss pretty much drinking every drop and not really exporting it- unlike their cheese and chocolate.
The first-ever ‘Marathon des Saveurs‘ took place in Valais in October passing 23km through the medieval town of Sion, with 650 meters of climbing, along the mythical ‘Chemin du Vignoble’ and ending in the wine village of Salgesch, the linguistic border between French and German-speaking Switzerland.
