60 years ago on the 29th of May 1953, Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary made the first successful summit of Mount Everest.
This May, I joined The Adventure Company on their special Everest Base camp anniversary trek, where we made a detour to Tenzing’s home town, the mountain village of Thame, where the occasion was being celebrated with a Sherpa themed dinner and festivities.
My article about my time in Nepal can now be read at the Daily Mail Online, here and in Trek and Mountain magazine, here.
Some photos of day one of my 60th anniversary Everest Base Camp trek can be seen here on Google Plus: or on my Flickr photo stream here
There is more information about the trek here
A special thank you to Jagan Timilsina, from Himalayan Encounters, our local guides, who made the trip so memorable.
